Exhibition: Stations of the River | Photography Artworks by Martin Liddament | 19 September – 24 October 2026 


The title Stations of the River refers to the Catholic devotional and meditative tradition of the fourteen Stations of the Cross. These are generally represented by carvings or images that are visited one by one, often as part of a pilgrimage or journey. Their separation in space means the worshipper must physically pause by each to focus the mind and attention.


Martin Liddament's pictures are not directly related to the religious narrative, but are instead paired; monochrome with colour, fourteen in total. Each pair is linked, either by way of contrasting or complementary ideas, or by a compositional theme. Martin took them along a stretch of the Avon that he walks nearly every day and would like the viewer to think of them as a journey through thoughts and feelings as much as through…
