Introduction to Intaglio Printing

Come and get inky and immerse yourself in the world of printing! An introduction to intaglio using recycled packaging, we will delve into the world of drypoint where a design is incised into the surface, and print created by the ink that sits in the recesses. Intaglio printing is a technique where a design is etched or engraved into a plate, the image is then created by the ink that sits in the recesses. It allows for a high level of detail and works well for both abstract and more figurative images. No experience is necessary for this hands-on workshop where you will be introduced to the technique, guided through the process and then encouraged to get as creative as you wish to produce a selection of your own prints to take home with you. Intaglio printing has traditionally required copper or zinc plates and harsh chemicals to etch, or specialist tools to engrave into the surface. In this workshop you will learn how you can practise intaglio printing using materials and equipment that you may already have at home. The Woodpecker Shed works in all sorts of media exploring traditional techniques involving paper, ink, and textiles and has been running workshops for 15 years. Brook Arts Hub is fully accessible and refreshments are provided free of charge.
